App Army Assemble: Beyond the Wall - "Is this point-and-click adventure worth your time?"

Point-and-click games are currently fairly popular on mobile. We've covered quite a few of them in these community features over the past year or so. Beyond the Wall is the latest entry in the genre and follows the story of a little girl who ventures outside the confines of the titular wall. Promising a short and sweet experience, we handed the game over to our App Army members to see what they made of it.

Here's what they said:

A super nice adventure game to play, you control a girl in search of her friend, and the gameplay consists of clicking on the point, and solving puzzles with certain items, all very intuitive and well done. Its graphics are super nice, and its sound effects and music are super cool. I highly recommend this game if you like to unravel secrets.

As a keen fan of puzzle games, this one really hit the brief. The artwork was delightful and the storyline was easy to follow. The gameplay involved picking up objects and using them to move forward - some objects were used singularly and some were combined with others. The puzzles varied in difficulty and it was great to have a game that had a degree of challenge to it, but if I did get stuck there was a novel hint button which gave a sketch of the way to solve it, but without giving the whole scenario, so there was still a need for thinking it through. I really enjoyed the game and would recommend it.

Beyond the Wall is a point-and-click adventure where the protagonist must find her friend. There are lots of puzzles to solve before you can proceed further. The good aspects of the game are - the lovely art and graphics, the story and the underlying purpose, and the hint system, which came in handy. The not-so-good was the confusing puzzle system at times and also the trial and error needed to solve some of the puzzles, which could take a long time to solve. All in all a fairly solid game, 7/10.

Beyond the Wall is a point-and-click adventure where you guide a young child to discover what has happened to her friend. You advance by using and combining items to solve the puzzles in a level. Each level also has a hint picture to help you out.

The graphics and sound are basic but do the job. The game is linear as you must solve all the puzzles on a screen to advance. The touchscreen controls can be frustrating at times and the game is quite short. Only fans of point-and-click adventures will enjoy the time spent with this game.

This is a charming point-and-click adventure, a short one I must say, depending on your experience solving puzzles and playing point-and-click games. I really liked the look of it, and the sweet music that accompanies it. There's a little girl that wants to go see his friend, but he doesn't answer the door. So she sets out inside his property to find him. And then we're on an adventure a little bit like Alice in Wonderland, as there are a lot of weird things happening and a lot of wonderful characters that we will find on our way.

The puzzles aren't too hard, and there is at least one, at the beginning, where there's not much logic to the solution, just trial and error (I'm looking at you, level 2), but the rest of them are all fun to find out how to solve them. There is a hint on each level that only tells you what the objective is to advance to the next level. You can take a look at it if you don't understand right away what it is you're looking at, but it's a nice touch so you don't get completely lost. I hope the adventure goes on for a few more levels if the developer updates the game, but all in all, it's a very sweet short point-and-click that I enjoyed very much.

This is a nice-looking and clever point-and-click adventure. Like many others, you’re picking up objects (which were generally easy to find) and using them to get past an obstacle. The hint system is clever, actually telling you in a rough sense what you need to do, and with a bit of thought the challenges can be overcome without too much difficulty. It’s short, though the Dev is apparently working on more levels. There’s not much groundbreaking here but it’s a decent little adventure for a decent price. If you like this genre, you’ll enjoy this.

This is a short and cute p&c adventure game by Rocking Toy with an art and play style reminiscent of Amanita Design while maintaining a unique look and feel. Tested on Pixels 4a5g and 6a, without issue.

Good:

  • Nice art style combining cartoony figures with more realistic painted backgrounds
  • The linear story is charming and often quite amusing
  • The puzzles aren’t too repetitive, nor too difficult–just right in my opinion
  • Clever hint system that shows you the goal of the level without giving away how you get there
  • There are only 10 levels but I still enjoyed this game a lot
  • You can easily play just one room at a time, then go do something else

Bad:

  • The puzzles appear to have multiple solutions but there’s really only one way to solve them. This means you may spend time poking things with rocks, sticks, and other tools when only your finger is needed
  • Some areas are quite dark, making it difficult to find clues on small phone screens
  • The puzzles do not require any backtracking–until the final two levels. This may cause confusion.
  • It’s very short and you could solve this in about 20-25 minutes (most will take longer)
